Spicy Sweet & Sour Tofu

Celebrate the Chinese New Year with this tangy, mouth watering side dish. A sour tofu that is seasoned and flavoured with soy sauce, maple syrup, garlic cloves and coriander, this promises to be an addictive treat.

Ingredients

  • 500g Firm Tofu

  • 4 tbsp Corn Flour or Tapioca Flour

  • 6 tbsp Soya Sauce

  • 4 tbsp Water

  • 4 tbsp Maple Syrup or Agave

  • 2 finely chopped Garlic Cloves

  • 1 tbsp Ketchup

  • 4 tbsp Vegetable Oil

  • 4 tbsp Fresh Coriander Leaves

  • 1 tbsp Rice Vinegar

Directions

  • Drain the tofu from packaging liquid and dry with a paper towel. Cut into ½ inch cubes and coat with 2 tbsp corn flour.
  • Bring a large cast iron pan to medium heat, add the vegetable oil and brown the tofu on all sides.
  • While the tofu is cooking, whisk together the rest of the corn flour, soya sauce, ketchup, vinegar, garlic, maple syrup and water.
  • Add the sauce to the tofu and stir for 30 seconds until it thickens. Keep stirring until the tofu is completely coated, add the coriander and keep serve.
