Ingredients
- For the Jackfruit Filling
1 can Jackfruit, drained and shredded
1 Onion, finely chopped
2 cloves Garlic, minced
1/8 cup Soy Sauce
2 tablespoons Hoisin Sauce
1 tablespoon Maple Syrup
1 tablespoon Sesame Oil
1 teaspoon Ginger, grated
Carrots, Spring Onion, Red Chilli and Coriander for garnish.
- For the Bao Buns
180ml Warm Milk
3.5g Dry Yeast
3g Baking Powder
20g Caster Sugar
1.5g Sea Salt
300g All Purpose Flour
Method
- Jackfruit Filling
- Sauté onion and garlic in sesame oil until translucent.
- Add shredded jackfruit and cook for 5 minutes.
- Stir in soy sauce, hoisin sauce, maple syrup, and grated ginger.
- Simmer on low heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until jackfruit is tender.
- Adjust seasoning and set aside
- Bao Bun Dough
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and baking powder.
- In a separate bowl, combine yeast with warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Let the dough rise in a covered bowl for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into small balls.
- Roll each ball into a flat oval shape, fold in two and oil inside the crease. Place the buns on parchment paper, steam for 12 to 15 minutes.
- Fill the buns with jackfruit, shredded carrots and spring onion julienne, red chilli and coriander.
